Se vai de Lisboa para o Algarve, deve definitivamente passar um ou dois dias na regi\u00e3o do Alentejo. Um lugar que realmente recomendamos \u00e9 Estremoz. Do castelo do s\u00e9culo XIII, hoje uma Pousada, normalmente tem uma vista ampla sobre a cidade e as vinhas circundantes ...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estremoz has excellent restaurants like the wonderful Mercearia Gadanha<\/a> by Chef Michele Marques<\/a> (her desserts are divine!) with an innovative take on the traditional portuguese cuisine and a superbly equipped wine and gourmet shop and Alecrim<\/a> where the wide variety of dishes and the extensive wine list ensure that everyone finds something to their taste. More recently, Larau Restaurante<\/a> with Chef Filipe Bilro<\/a> has added a much needed fish and seafood dimension to the already excellent restaurant scene while the restaurant of Casa do Gadanha<\/a> by Chefs Ruben Trindade and Francisca Dias<\/a>, just like Mercearia do Gadanha, may be on its way to earning Estremoz’ first Michelin star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Todos os s\u00e1bados h\u00e1 um grande mercado com uma mistura improv\u00e1vel de antiguidades e frutas e legumes locais. Os comerciantes de antiguidades v\u00eam de t\u00e3o longe como Lisboa ou de cidades espanholas pr\u00f3ximas para vender tudo, desde talhas coloridas de azeite at\u00e9 enormes fontes de m\u00e1rmore. A eles juntam-se os agricultores locais que tradicionalmente v\u00eam \u00e0 cidade aos s\u00e1bados para vender os seus produtos frescos no mercado.<\/p>\n\n\n

There are several excellent wine producers in and around Estremoz. For a premium wine try the excellent Quinta do Mouro<\/a>. J\u00falio Bastos<\/a> produces the excellent “Amantis” and “Dona Maria” wines, both red and white, as well as an excellent “Dona Maria Petit Verdot” and the more expensive J\u00falio B. Bastos wines. Margarida and Joaquim Caba\u00e7o produce the elegant and balanced “Monte dos Caba\u00e7os Tinto<\/a>” and “Monte dos Caba\u00e7os Reserva Tinto<\/a>” as well as the incredible “Margarida” (both red<\/a> and white<\/a>). Their son Tiago Caba\u00e7o<\/a> offers a range of excellent wines from the inexpensive “.com”, through the full-bodies Vinhas Velhas (both red and white) to the wonderful white “blog” (the red blog has earned awards, but we found it a bit disappointing).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
