Serro da Volta

Surrounded by a small creek, our country house “Serro da Volta” lies alone in a sheltered valley, close to the village of Daroeira. The main house has 3 bedrooms, a large open-space kitchen and 2 bathrooms. The loft “Casa Branca” is a separate space with a large living room/bedroom and a private bathroom. In the third building, the “Casa do Forno”, there is a large, wood-fired bread oven and an extra refrigerator.

The six terraces offer sunny as well as shady places. The 12.5-meter former irrigation tank is surrounded by olive trees and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. With a modern central heating in every room, Serro da Volta is one of the few places where you can enjoy the beautiful nature of the eastern Algarve during the winter and spring season, when the beaches and hiking trails are empty, the plants are green and the flowers are blooming.

Our carefully restored traditional farmhouse in the hills of Sotavento lies 10 km away from the sea and the endless sandy beaches of the eastern Algarve, right on the edge of the national park “Mata da Conceição”. The picturesque town of Tavira is a 15 minute drive away (approx. 10 km). The house has 5 hectares of land on both sides of the creek with orange, lemon, olive and almond trees as well as carob and cork trees. In 2024 the interior of Serro da Volta was totally renovated.

The house is ideal for those seeking tranquility, hikers, nature lovers and beach lovers who do not want to stay in the big apartment complexes by the sea. Our house was renovated in the traditional Algarvian style by local craftsmen. The floors are made of hand-crafted terracotta tiles and the traditional “mosaico hidráulico” (colourful handmade cement tiles). The roof is made of reeds and hand-crafted roof tiles. The modern interior features a large kitchen with gas stove and oven, a dishwasher, a large refrigerator with freezer (a second fridge is in the annex “Casa do Forno”), washing machine. Wi-fi is provided via a mobile router with 15 GB of data per week.
